"And I have this new game we could play. It's called Fluxx! It's about improvising rules and conditions on the fly."
"Is it by Avalon Hill?"
"What?"
"Avalon Hill, sonny! Best games ever! Is it an improvisional rules game about the Austrians at Eylau? 'Cause I could really go for that."

A few months back, I got in an argument about the demise of "real wargaming", which I finally had to describe specifically as rigorous historical simulation games.

My friend kept alternating between bringing up stuff like Axis & Allies, and pointing out that the gaming cons he went to were full of people playing games that had been out of print for a quarter-century.

They not only obliterated the hobby, they salted the ground.
