The Hoard Potato fires his canon.
From a conversation on FurryMUCK, with someone grumbling about the new movie "mixing up the characters":

I can't really take "G.I. Joe Canon" seriously.

I mean... where are the facial scars? In
my day, all the Joes had identical facial scars. It was like a gang sign or something.

He was eleven or twelve inches tall too, but today?

Suddenly...
...he's not half the man he used to be!

Re: Suddenly...
He is shorter by an inch or three,
Oh, G.I. Joe shrank suddenly.

(Edited to put in the periods, because otherwise he looks like Gastrointestinal Joe.)

I can't take G. I. Joe seriously in any context. Maybe the old 12 inch because they basically were soliders with little flair. The 80's reboot and beyond is just crazy stuff. Not saying that I don't like it - I mean, it's awesome stuff. You got ninjas and hot russian chicks with glasses wearing skin tight pvc. But there's also a dude wearing a football jersey who's code name is the weapon he's carrying, a big black dude who speaks in rhymes, a muscleman mad scientist (with no sleeves on his evil labcoat even) and evil british twins. It's just silly and appeals greatly to the little boy in me.

Or take resolute, which is that same silly stuff with a big fistful of dark and gritty thrown in that appeals to the 20-something in me who liked all that stuff as a little boy.

The only complaint I have about the new movie is cobra comander. Who's that douchebag in the suit? Where is the shrill-voiced guy wearing the metal mask screaming 'you idiots!' When his mooks screw up?

I loved the venture brothers episode that has the OSI parody of G.I. Joe. Yes, as usual, you hit the nail on the head.

Gordon-Levitt apparently thought he'd sound 'too ridiculous' if he channeled Chris Latta that much. And don't get me wrong, me being the one Athelind was talking with at the time...the 80s show was really ridiculous. Blue lasers are bad, red lasers are good! But...I mean, I still liked it, and I love the comics, which treat it slightly more un-ridiculous. And I would have loved seeing the Corsican twins! At least one of them would have had a facial scar!

So he could lip-synch to "In the Navy"?

Maybe they were talking about GI Joe cannon?

I had Eagle-Eye GI Joe, who developed baldness around the little slider switch to make the eyes go left-right :D

I actually went and saw it this afternoon. I did what I am used to doing, and that's leaving all preconceptions at the door, and sit back to enjoy a summer movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I know you hate spoilers, so I won't give anything away, except this one tiny thing: One of the characters does have a scar on his right cheek.
