A salute to Yuri Gargarin!

A salute to Yuri's Night -- or Cosmonautics Day, if you prefer.

(Yoinked from retro_futurism.)

(aeto's comment had me sufficiently embarrassed that I set this to private for a while, but, what the heck.)

Should I be reminded of... uh... something there in that pic? :>

Sometimes a rocket ship is just a rocket ship.
I would not have seen that if you hadn't pointed it out to me.

I like old-style pulp art and dynamic, optimistic futurist propaganda. I know, intellectually, that they often contain not-so-subtle Freudian imagery, but I don't see it. I see Woo hoo! Starships! Space flight! The Far Call!

And now I can't unsee it.

Actually, even before I saw Aeto's comment or your edit comment on the main journal, I was considering how thoughtful it was that they'd made form-fitting flight suits for all these women, so much so that one can immediately tell their gender, helmet or no.
