Driver's Ed 101: Cursing the Dorkness
Poll #1308644 Driver's Ed 101, Poll #1

What kind of idiot drives with no lights on in thick fog?

If it's daytime, I don't need lights. Period.
6(21.4%)
I can't find the light switch.
1(3.6%)
Be vewwy vewwy quiet -- I'm a ninja!
8(28.6%)
It's all just a scam, man. The man is just trying to control your mind with all this stuff about lights.
3(10.7%)
Don't give me that liberal bullshit about "visibility". I can drive any way I want! Lights are for suckers.
10(35.7%)

(Bonus points for driving a gray car on gray pavement against a gray sky with no lights.)

Wow. It's been up for less than ten minutes, and there's already a landslide for the last option. People must have noticed the correlation between No Lights In Poor Visibility and SUVs/Pickup Trucks.

Answer; one with a BMW, if today's drive to work is an indication.

What I liked last night between here and the bay area was the evening commuters, surrounded by cars with lights, at dusk.

This is why I always drive with lights on when it's even vaguely cloudly or rainy, let alone outright fog. Silver car. @whee.

Um...
someone with an electric car? Silent and deadly...
Your Obedient Serpentathelind on December 4th, 2008 02:07 am (UTC)
Oh, that's ME, when I'm driving quelonzia's Prius.

I should have made the post about how riding a bike while wearing your iPod earbuds has gone from merely stupid to downright STOOPID now that there are nearly-silent hybrids and electrics on the road; yes, I found myself stuck behind Mister Clueless Voluntary Deaf Bicyclist a week or two back.

This is a time when I'm actually glad I don't wear earbuds (I find them just plain uncomfortable). I have yet to encounter a moving vehicle (besides a bicycle) that doesn't make enough noise to hear.

Of course, now that I have a motorized vehicle and spend more time on the street than the sidewalk, I've stopped wearing headphones while travelling. Catching up on my podcasts has consequently gotten more difficult.

Someone who just discovered their headlights are misaligned and blind them instead of helping?

They should have their parking lights on even if that is the case.

Daytime running lamps FTW

I have found this does not help. Despite a law "wipers on? headlights on" here, I have been driving in lengthy downpours and found several cars without a single bulb illuminated. And what policeman wants to get out in that to just probably give the guy a warning to make him turn on the lights which will just be off again when the car is started again. Couple those with the idiots who drive around with rear fogs on all the time and it's a wonder these people haven't been head-on'd or rear-ended into oblivion yet.
Arcaton: boneyr_caton on December 3rd, 2008 11:33 pm (UTC)
I only use rear fogs to help the dips**t behind me to find the dipswitch...

Probably the same kind of moron that makes up the rest of the retarded drivers on the road worldwide. ^^()
