The Hoard Potato Comments About The Spirit
I don't care what the movie trailers say.

The Spirit's city doesn't "scream".

The Spirit's city chuckles, nods, and smiles sadly.

I feel: annoyedannoyed

As soon as I found out about the project, and that Frank Miller was involved, I gave up on it being the idea of The Spirit being Eisner's distinct mix of tongue-in-cheek comedy, pulp adventure, and superheros, and just figured it'd be this charmlessly grim thing.

Hopefully it gets people into reading those comics though.

Oh, yes. A Spirit revival is definitely to be hoped for. :)

Oh, DC revived The Spirit a couple of years ago. The first year was an absolutely superb batch of stories by Darwyn Cooke (DC: The New Frontier), who managed to update the character and his supporting cast without compromising them.

After Cooke left, Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragones (of Groo the Wanderer fame) have been scripting for a variety of artists. I'm, um, not as fond of their take; it's a little too... sit-com for my tastes. But it's not BAD.

I remember Sergio Aragones primarily for his little cartoons traversing the pages of Mad Magazine (from reading my father's collection).
